KARCHI: The former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seemed satisfied with his tenure and believed he had done the best he could.
However, he admitted that he had a few regrets.
“I have no regrets whatsoever as I tried my level best and fulfilled my duties with honesty. I believe curbing the player-power is the highlight of my tenure as it paved the way for young blood,” Butt told a private television channel.
Butt assumed the office of the PCB chairman on 8th October 2008, and reportedly wanted an extension when his tenure expired. However, Butt denied this and said that he has decided to stay away from cricket.
“I did not ask for an extension and in fact formally informed the president in September about my intentions,” added Butt
“The president even gave me an option to get another term and later resign after 6-7 months, however I had decided to focus on my business which has suffered,” maintained the former wicketkeeper batsman who played in 8 Tests from 1959 to 1962.
Zaka Ashraf was appointed the new PCB chairman by Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday.
Butt describes the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team as the worst incident of his career and said that throughout his tenure he felt he was criticized unnecessarily.
“The attack on the Sri Lankan team was really unfortunate but it was not the fault of the PCB, also on various other occasions, I was misquoted and criticised unnecessarily,” he said.
