Solid Start By Pakistan After Bangladesh Skittled Out

CHITTAGONG: Pakistan openers provided a solid start of unbeaten 132, just three runs short of Bangladesh first innings total of 135 on the opening day of the first Test being played here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.

Mohammad Hafeez was unbeaten on 74 at the close with Taufeeq Umar (53 not out).

This is for the fourth time the pair was involved in a century-wicket partnership.

After Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat, his bowlers destroyed the home team within four hours.

Spinners Abdul Rehman and Saeed Ajmal bagged three wickets each for nine and 40, respectively while pace-bowlers Umar Gul and Aizaz Cheema claimed two wickets each.

Main scorers for Bangladesh were young allrounder Nasir Hossain (41) and debutant opener Nazimuddin (31) followed by Mahmudullah (18) as no other batsman could enter into double figures.
